When we listen when it comes to the apocalypse we think of things such as judgment day, and the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse. We likewise think of 2012, of mysterious planets colliding with our world, or galore paranoid crackpot spewing on when it comes to government conspiracies involving aliens and what not.

The reality is that our civilization will come to an end, we plainly cannot keep up with the amount of usage of resources while the globs population explodes. I don’t know when the end will come, perhaps it’s already started I don’t know. What I do know is that each and each one of us needs to be prepared to survival the aftermath of a collapse in civilization.

So what may you the intermediate hard working person do with a fixed budget and bills to compensate do to prepare for this event. Here are 5 steps you may take to get yourself post apocalypse ready. 1. Stay in shape or get in shape

You don’t have to have a perfective body, but the better shape your in the quicker wounds will heal, your immune system will function better, your selfconfidence will improve, and your capacity to think without doubt or question beneath stress will primarily improve. You ought to concentrate on strength building and endurance building exercises, such as running, hiking, swimming. Practice hiking with a backpack or ” Bug Out Bag ” to get your body applied to carrying a heavier load. Make sure to eat right, this doesn’t mean you can’t have beer and hot-dogs, just don’t go overboard.

2. Take courses

Knowledge is power particularly in the post apocalypse world, learn as much as you can. Some examples of what you will have to learn are basic mechanics, original aid, basic electrical courses, carpentry or a heap of form of handy man type training, self defense, and firearms training. Most of these courses may be learned in the evenings or weekends so they won’t mainly affect your schedule and personnel time. For firearms and self defense training it’s essential to always keep this attainments up to date with regular practice. For self defense one will have to attend classes at least twice a week, for firearms training after your primary course, one will have to go to shooting ranges at least once a month.

3. Know the ground

In the event of a collapse or apocalypse you need to perceive what resources you have available. You need to know how you may get out of your neighborhood or city as fast as possible. Plan escape routes, be sure to have alternate routes and plans to stay in front of things you can’t predict. This may be as merely as keeping a map of your city or town in your home office or anyplace where it’s without apparent effort accessible. On this map plat possible routes you and your family may use to escape your location. Have a rendezvous emplacement that everyone knows how to get to in the event somebody gets divided from the group.

4. Have a plan

Keep the plan simple, complex plans have a tendency to get messed up very fast. For example when escaping your emplacement you must pick a frequent direction where you feel you have the best chance of survival, rather then a specific town. Chances are good that town may be hostile, or not subsist anymore. Like the above statement have alternate plans, again keep the back up plans simple to understand, follow and direct to others in your group.

5. Keep your cool

Will a collapse be exceedingly stressful, yes. Will you be tired from lack of sleep, be dehydrated, and afraid, very much so. However you need to keep your wits in regards to you. If you are in charge of a group or family and you start out to panic or crack what message does that send to the others, specially if those others are children. It will cause them to panic, once you and your group panic then stupid conclusions are made, and those stupid conclusions will most likely get someone killed. Even if your ready to fall apart inside it is critical to stay calm to keep your group calm who may be looking up to to protect and lead them.

6. Have a bug out bag

A bug out bag is a military term for a soldiers kit that is always packed and ready to go on a moments notice. Having a bag full of necessary items you need to survive such as water purification tablets, fire starter kit, radio, rations, and a primary support kit will keep you and your group alive. If in a group you may likewise have multiple bug out bags to maximize the amount of gear, food, and water you may store which will increase your survival chances galore times over. 7. Research

Find out if there are any government shelters, or locatings where the government will try to rebuild or gather survivors to protect them in the event of a collapse. Check forums and search the Internet to find like minded humans to learn advice, and aid invent a plan of action and possible contact list of other survivors who may support you.

Works Perfect – Just follow the directions

UPDATED(3-28-2011) – SEE UPDATE SECTION AT END:

I tried this magnesium fire starting tool – SE(Emergency Fire Starter – SE – Emergency Fire Starter) out as well as the alternative from (from Doan Machinery & Equipment – “Genuine Issue Magnesium Survival Fire Starter” Genuine Issue Magnesium Survival Fire Starter).

Both tools work perfectly fine as described and were able to light up fine fibers(cotton, moss, dried grass) and paper without a problem. The Doan tool has more precise instructions and clearly states on the packaging to scrape the magnesium portion of the bar with a knife blade PERPENDICULAR to the edge of the tool. I found this to method made for the most shavings and larger shavings at that. The packaging clearly states that you want a QUARTER(U.S. Coin) sized amount (just shy of 1 inch or 2.4cm diameter) Then holding the bar at 45 degree angle to the pile of shavings drag the knife along the flint to create sparks. The directions remind you to hold the blade perpendicular to the bar while “striking” the flint. I would advise not to strike the flint as they are brittle. However, a nice quick full length drag of the blade down the flint creates a shower of sparks for easy ignition of the magnesium shavings.

Both brands work fine. They are nearly identical in shape(the SE is a few mm longer). Each brand has a different finish/coating on the bar itself is about the only difference I can tell. The performance seemed to be identical or at least close enough to not notice anything to complain about. The big difference is the price. The SE(made in China) is about half the price of the Doan(Made in USA – Patented). It appears to me that they are both the same design with slightly different execution of it, and one is just made overseas so that is why it’s cheaper(unless there is less active “ingredients”(magnesium).

One other note: The SE(Chinese one) also comes with a saw blade striker that does work but you need to wear through a protective layer of lacquer for it to work and it’s just small enough to annoy my large hands. I just stick with a cheap staineless steel pocket knife for this. I always carry about 3-4 blades when I’m out hiking(cheap folder that I don’t care if it gets ruined, sometimes a higher quality folder, always a fixed blade that is larger with full tang, and usually a multi tool(leatherman).

You can’t go wrong with either tool. I’d prefer to buy American(Doan – the “other” one) in the long run though, especially for something I might end up having my life depend on.

EDIT: One last note on product life- depending on how much magnesium you need to get your fire going each time, I think the flint will run out long before you ever use up all the magnesium.

There have been a ton of reviews mentioning that the DOAN tool being purchased is no longer made in USA or shipped as a knock off. Be careful which seller you buy from. I will be posting pictures later today that show the SE Tool side by side with the Doan tool. I no longer have the packaging to show what they look like however.

Excellent value and works great!

I received this today, and it works great. I would suggest using the back (non-serrated) edge of the steel to shave the magnesium and the serrated edge for striking the flint. The magnesium block and flint both have some kind of coating, so the first time you use it it’ll take a few extra tries. I’ve seen these selling for double or triple the price and people were happy to pay it, so this is an excellent deal!

Handy and good for the price

I bought this along with the Swedish Firesteel to test them out. I like this product due to the fact that you can shave the magnesium off and use it to start the tender, however I found that the flint was difficult to use and did not put off much spark. It did spark, though. The swedish firesteel throws of a much bigger and hotter spark and was much easier to use, however if you do not have good tender it doesn’t matter much. I think that having both of them together is good and they are both are a relatively inexpensive purchase if you consider how valuable they are when needed.

Stay away from this seller, perhaps even this item

I bought this with two day shipping.
It came as ordered. Awesome.

After unboxing…Well, I do not know where to begin.

1) item clearly was different than the photos.

2) Item listed on amazon says 3.0 mega pixels, manual clearly states 2.0, this is a false listing on amazon.

3) Item clearly has two buttons for recording, the one I received had 4 with mp3 headphones. None of which I ordered and obviously more noticeable and bulky.

4) attempts to ask manufacturer about the microsd slot, does it use microsdhc or is the older type, have gone unanswered. There is no way to tell if it actually takes a 8gb or not.

5) item listed as 30 FPS, manual states 25-30 FPS with no way to adjust that.

6) Resolution listed on amazon is 736 X 480, manual clearly states this is not so. The actual resolution in manual is 640×480.

7)I set it up to charge, blue light came on, hours later blue light is still on, but nothing works at all. Cannot see it in the computer, cannot change ‘mode’ etc..this item appears dead.

All in all, I feel like I bought an item off ebay from a d-bag seller who lies and cheats. For this price I expected what I bought, not some old fake pair that does not work.

Stay away from this seller and their products. Me? I am starting the dang refund/return process, this is dung.

Shipping back product.

These glasses are being shipped back to the vendor. The video camera function did not work. When I tried to record a video it only captured the audio for playback. In addition the still shot pictures were not very clear. Also the manual does not conatain any customer service number or warranty information.

Battery died after almost 3 weeks of daily use…

The battery died while I was using it today. Contacted Amazon for a refund and they will send UPS to pick it up tomorrow.
This is my 4th purchase of this from different vendors and this has the best quality so far. The video and sound qualities were good. Unfortunately, the internal battery did not last long. There should be a way to replace the battery myself in case the warranty expires. Not comfortable if I will recommend this to buy. Another thing, I got this for $86 3 weeks ago and now it is on sale for $57
I might try the i-Kam extreme. Hopefully this will last longer…

This thing must be from Mars! The picture makes it look flat but it actually has a rounded, oblique shape that looks like some type of NASA project. It is very bright and durable as others have described and you can toggle through hi, low and strobe. When you stop for a second or so on a setting the next selection will then turn the light off. If you leave it on it will shut down in 30 minutes. The metal space ship looking body is durable and held together with 4 screws… one of mine fell out. No moisture seal is present. It is the heaviest, brightest, most durable keychain light I have found. 2016 batts can be expensive though and if you use this light frequently the batteries will expire quickly – the trade off for such a bright torch. So try and find a deal on a multipack of batteries. You can get one of these at Target for $6 change and they sell a two pack of batts for $5… makes sense to just by another light and have a spare! This light would be ultra awesome if it had an eyebrow over the top of the bulb to keep the glow out of your eyes.

Impressively Bright

Only had this about a day and wanted to say how surprised I am with the brightness. On high, it’s like a small flashlight. I had no trouble illuminating the far wall in a three car garage. Low seems enough for most closer in tasks and is brighter than you’d think. Helps conserve batteries, also. Beam type provides plenty of usable flood around the center. Interface is easy to use with a good feeling push button switch you don’t have to hold down. I doubt it will get accidently turned on in your pocket or purse. Overall build quality appears solid. Keyring is of medium quality…easy enough to attach a heavier duty one. I’m a little concerned with battery life, but the trade-off for brightness seems worth it. You can save a lot on batteries here on amazon. I purchased two 5 packs of Maxell for under six dollars and no shipping charges. It takes two CR2016 button cells and you’ll need a very small phillips head screwdriver.

Super little flashlight!

Nice little flashlight! It is 2″ long, including the bulb protrusion. Very solid. No worries about this flashlight falling apart! I always keep it in my pocket – just in case – but don’t use it as an actual keychain.

There is a rubberized button switch which you use to toggle through the settings, from high intensity to low intensity to flashing and then back to off. After a second or two, you are fixed on your selected setting and, thus, it will turn off when you click again. This means that you don’t have to cycle through all the other settings in order to turn it off from the high intensity beam: you just go directly to off.

Highly recommended.

VERY nice looking, needs minor adjustment

First, I just want to say that this seller did a great job of contacting me.
Second, about the item: I was VERY happy with it. Nice black stand with velvet in the “U” and velvet underneath (means no scratches on table), even better! and shinier! looking in person then in the photos. MY only recommendation is to make the sword “U” holder shape more narrow. My sword is either tilting back at an angle of 30 degrees or tilting forward. It won’t stay perfectly upright. If the “U” were narrower, it would be straighter. I like the lettering and the simple, black, shiny paint. Good job!

Good price for a nice stand

I find it interesting that the image shows absolutely no inscription on the stand, because the stand I recieved has “MUSASHI” in large English on one side of the base and two Japanese letters on the other–but otherwise, once the three pieces are slid into place, it looks exactly as pictured. There are no screws or anything of that nature: the stand comes in a small box, three pieces, and assembly is as simple as sliding the pieces into place. They fit very snuggly together; I don’t think it would be wise to attempt to disassemble this stand once it’s put together, as I’m almost certain doing so would at least scuff up the base.

The bottom and the sword-holding parts are lined with velvet, so you don’t need to worry about either your sword or the tabletop this stands on taking any damage from its use. It looks very nice with a sword placed on it. It’s a pity I won’t have my sword out on display more often.

Love these cards

My grandparents love playing cards and have been using Congress brand ever since I can remember. These cards have been getting much harder to find in the past 10 years though. Last time we played, their decks were so worn out that they couldn’t even be dealt. So, I purchased this lot of cards to last them the next 10 years. They couldn’t be happier with them. They are paper cards coated in plastic, but they have a nice feel to them and deal very well and do last a few years even with heavy use. Five stars for the right brand and type at a great price!

It is small & would probably fit any railed gun out there. It works perfect every time I turn it on. Would highly recommend this laser if u r looking for a small laser.It can be turned on left or right handed with the 2 buttons on the back.I bought 1 & after the first shot would not turn off I contacted laserlyte & they sent me a new one next day & added 12 extra batteries for my trouble & sent me a send back label so I was out nothing for the shipments. Great customer service. The new one I received has worked perfect & always works.Highly recommend.Have had the unit now for about 8 months.

Sub-Compact is Right

I mounted this on a Kel-Tec PF9 and it looks like it was made for the gun.
Fit perfectly and I roughly adjusted the sights in, in no time at all.
Even comes with an extra set of batteries.

The golf balls seem cheaply made and the steeler emblems are already scratched and coming off & I never did receive the 50 golf tees…very disappointing!
