The Latest Survey on Sex

This “never-before-reported study of why women have sex was conducted online amongst June 2006 and April 2009…..The survey begun by asking the women if they had ever had sex for one of the 237 reasons we identified in our original study.” The study involved 1,006 women from a potpourri of backgrounds.
“The basic biochemistry of attraction is the number one reason women give for why they have sex.” Women unconsciously employ two types of evolutionary instincts to seek out and find their mates–they are “Genetic benefits” that “are the high-quality genes that may endow a woman’s children with a better capacity to survive and reproduce.” “‘Resource benefits,’ are the second type that include food, shelter from the hostile forces of nature, and physical shelter from aggressive men, help a woman and her children survive and thrive.”
This is a arousing and attention holding non-fiction book. It’s full of data that most readers will never have even imagined. One of the book’s firstborn examples of this is “the scent of sexiness.” Women’s sense of smell enables them to help select their best possible mates by the odor of the males “pheromones.” A male’s scent enables women to discern good hygiene and clues to the male’s immune system and body ratio and whether mating with them will formulate superior offspring.

Must Read

This book is a virtual roadmap to heightened intimacy. Finally, a book with all the things my mother must have told me (or told me incorrectly!) with the science behind it. I found it to be fascinatingly informative and at the same time, an pleasurable read owing to the authors’ more or less humorous and unorthodox approach to the topic. It’s a book my husband would never buy for himself since he thinks he already knows everything on the subject, and yet, each time I put it down, I later found him “just thumbing through it” so hint: buy two copies if you want one just for yourself. Even even though we haven’t discussed the book, the subtle, but essential changes in our overall kinship have been gratifying to both of us. I would highly commend this book to each couple, both married and unmarried, and everyone other than as supposed or expected necessitating to have an appreciation of effeminate sexuality.

Tame for this author

I love David Buss, who I consider one of the fathers of evolutionary psychology (EP). This, though, is not one of his best. Basically, he gives an EP gloss to what seems to be a Shere-Hite-like survey of sexual behavior.

There was very little that was new here. If you’ve never been exposed to EP before, you’ll love it. If you have, even though … That said, it is a good compilation of all the exploration on a peculiar topic. There are numerous good monographs like this one out there these days – Spent: Sex, Evolution, and Consumer Behavior, The Murderer Next Door: Why the Mind Is Designed to Kill, etc.

One thing that I did not like at all regarding this book was the special and significant stress on exploration subjects who are college students. Every little blurb seemed to be from a female age 19, 23, 21, 25, 20, etc. Very typical of academic research. It just doesn’t fit the subject matter for this one though. There’s a lot to learn with regards to sex after college. ;^)

It doesn’t work where it counts indoors. I live in ny. We have 4 dissimilar cell providers. They do not interfer with each other but in some places, numerous signals are more inviolable than others. In my case, i have a HTC EVO 4G, my cell company’s signal is weak indoors. I thought by getting this, it will at least give one or two extra bars that will support me receive a signal. But I was wrong. It doesn’t do a thing for signal reception were it’s needed, indoors. I won’t commend this. Sorry.

Ten Days, a social satire, tackles the superficial lives of Hollywood denizens—to mixed acclaim. Many reviewers were sufficiently pleasantly occupied by looking at Smiley’s set of spoiled, if smart, people interact and ruminate on their self-involved concerns; others found the conversations hackneyed. While Smiley’s use of the Iraq war developed a great deal of enlightened discussion, it also seemed like a heavy-handed device. Critics also diverged on the characters, which reflected their own view of the novel: a heap of characters stood out; others did not. A few learned indispensable lessons at the end of ten days—but most did not.

A neighbor tells gossipy tales of old Hollywood, Max’s agent pitches an improbable project, and a friend from Max’s boyhood irritates everyone. Each thorny reputation has an intriguing backstory, sensations run high, and Smiley is regally omnipotent as she advocates for art, objects to war, and considers tricky questions of power and spirit, love and compassion. Into the trash

Jane Smiley does in truth have a keen ear and masterful touch with dialogue, but….449 pages of eavesdropping on the rambling conversations of these various Hollywood stereotypes does not add up to an engrossing read. Like a lot of others, after 150 pages of hoping for a heap of redeeming quality in this work, I threw my copy in the trash. This book evoked the same visceral reaction I have to humans carrying on cell phone conversations in public places – the intuition for fight or flight.

Exceptional for the defective reasons.

Much as I hate to, I have to cast my vote in the negative column. Usually, a book written by a writer as gifted as Jane Smiley would garner an automatic 2 stars just to start. Her way with words is masterful – usually. But this novel is so mind-numbingly slow, and the characters so egocentric and shallow, that it would be difficult to spend 30 minutes in a room with them in person, never mind attempting to spend umpteen pages reading in regards to their each physical sensation. It seems none of them have very a heap of intellectual sensations. Seinfeld was the show regarding nothing, but the characters and speech were quirky, honest, and funny. This book in regards to not one thing has none of those advantages.

I never knew that SEX could be so boring

This book has a lot of sex, but it has no redeeming importance, social, politcal, personal, or otherwise. It isn’t just that the basic premise of analagizing the War in Iraq to the Great Plague in Europe in the 14th century is rediculous and offensive. Worse still is the fact that the book has no reason for being written or read. It is vacuous.
I wish I had read my fellow suckers’ reviews and saved my cash and my time. I got to page 35 and couldn’t do not forget much of anything, because there is not one thing memorable. I held reading, but it only got more dreary. Amazing that Knopf published this MS that must have been left on the cutting room floor as a novel out-take. An evenly good substitute would have been to have all the copies put into a burn bag in the CIA so that no one would have even known it existed. The author must be ashamed. The editor must be dismissed.
This book may have some use other than recycling. You may serve the Green Revolution by stoking your wood-burning stove.
