The Arizona Diamond is a professional American Baseball team conventional in 1998 at Phoenix, Arizona. They are members of the West Division of Major League Baseball’s National League. Phoenix grew to be 9th greatest city in USA in 1990 due to relocation of population to warmer states specially from Midwest and Northeast. Jerry Calangelo took initial step by setting up Arizona Baseball Inc. His experience as the majority owner of NBA team Phoenix Suns came in handy and in 1995 he kept “name the team” contest. The primary prize was a lifetime season ticket. The winning choice was Diamond back, named after a rattlesnake, most mutual in Arizona. This five feet long snake may inject a substantial amount of venom, when it strikes. The team is nicknamed D-backs and Snakes. The team logo is a red and a black triangle above purple Diamondbacks script. The Colangelo group was awarded the franchise in 1995 for playing 1998 season along with Tampa Bay’s Devil Rays (for St Petersburg). The home grounds are the Chase Fields which were earlier known as Bank One Ballpark (nickname The B.O.B.) and has a new retractable roof.

The team played it is introductory season in 1998 with the original game on March 31,1998 versus Colorado Rookies before a packed crowd of 50,179. They lost the game by 2-9. The Arizona Diamondbacks won their firstborn World Series Title in 2001, the youngest franchise to do so. Also in original five seasons they also won three fragmentary titles. The Arizona Diamondback have won the West Division four times in 1999, 2001, 2002 & 2007. The retired number is 42 Jack Robinson which was retired by MLB. In 2007, Bob Melvin, their manager, won the Manager of the year award. Jose Valverde RHP won the Fireman Award in 2007. Randy Johnson LHP won Cy Young four times in 1999, 2000, 2001 & 2002 and Brandon Webb RHP in 2006. In 2006, Craig Consell 2B won the LCS MVP. During the year 2001, the team won World Series; Randy Johnson LHP and Curt Schilling RHP won the World Series MVP. The other distinguish accomplishment include No Hitters on 5/18/2004 by Randy Johnson (Prefect) and Cycle Hitters by Luis Gonzalez (7/5/2000), Greg Collbrunn (9/18/2002) and Stephen Drew (9/1/2008) .

5 star series….3 star DVD collection ..a 4 star review

Hi Folks, I’m not a Yankee or Diamondback supporter per se…but this was a historic and terrific series so I picked it up without delay and have to report that this SET is a let down.

Unlike galore of the other series sets this ONLY has the finish games from the series, which given that it was a full seven is worthy of acceptance or satisfactory but something more of the lead up would have been better for context.

Also..DON’T THROW AWAY YOUR 1 DISC 2001 MLB DVD…its not on this set..
the bonus feature they tout as “Destiny In The Desert” (2001 Official World Series Film) isn’t the hour plus movie but a scant 9 Minutes!! what kind of “Film” is that? Featurette…maybe…but calling that a film is ridiculous…its when it comes to as long as the championship acceptance feature..
the bonus consultations Don’t feature Schilling or Johnson?

Hey..if you are a Diamondbacks fan …you have to have this…but it is not one thing equated to the 1988 Dodger set or the 1977 Yankee sets…but more on par with the 1975 REDS set…but that was understandable…I just figured they had less good material 30 years ago..there is no reason that this set couldn’t have been fleshed out a bit more.

At least this tremendous series is there to enjoy…geez when you consider all the hall of famers on that field..wow..and not to forget that CLemens and Johnson are a couple of the ALL TIME strikeout kings…and Schilling will be in the Hall as well..it ended the most recent Yankee Dynasty…and came on the heels of 911…this series just deserved more in my opinion.

It is surely all 7 games of the 2001 world series, but for my cash I think they ought to have done better than record straight from the master tape and leave the imperfections. Extra content is okay. But for your money, you’re better saving those dollars and buying the general 1 dvd 2001 world series.

World Series collection 2001

I purchased this along with the Cincinnati Reds and Boston Red Sox series as birthday presents for my son. He is a baseball fanatic and remembers observing the Reds/Boston when he was only 12 in 1975. He felt the D-Back/Yankee 2001 series came the nearest to the excitement of that series. He loves both and now him and his 2 sons are observing a heap of of the great players of the past that are in the Hall of Fame along with future Hall of Fame players. Having the DVD’s of the old World Series available is terrifi in that the younger generation may watch the players in action rather of just hearing what is said or short news reel clips of them. MLB is doing something right with the issuance of this collection.
